Rev Paul McPhail, General Secretary

Dear Servant of the Lord:

Greetings in the Precious Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Trust that you are enjoying God's blessings upon you, your family and ministry.

May 5, 2005, Brother and Sister Wuerch stepped down from the office of General Secretary of the I. A. O. G. I. (Canada).  They have served the Fellowship as General Secretary faithfully since 1985.  Anna Mae and I congratulate Joan and Harry for a job well done.  "Well done thou good and faithful servants."  We are trusting God to continue to use you in a mighty way across Canada.

In 1959, Rev. Stanley Hammond became the first Canadian General Secretary.  He was followed by Rev. Harry Nunn Sr. in 1964, who served until 1985.  At that time Rev. Harry Wuerch was elected to the position.  May 5, 2005, Rev. Paul McPhail was elected to the position of General Secretary.

The Theme for the I. A. O. G. I. (Canada) National Convention 2005 was "Unity."  "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the Name of  our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you:  but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." 1 Corinthians 1:10.  The first word in the sentence, "Now," indicates a transition from thanksgiving to reproof. In the earlier part of this chapter in 1 Corinthians, Paul had talked about the grace all Christians experience.  He also talked about the riches each Christian has in Christ Jesus.  He talked still further about God's dependability.  He then turned to the matter of rebuke and, on through 1 Corinthians 3:23, discussed this theme.

The origin of division in the assembly at Corinth was intellectual conceit and disagreement over leadership.  Paul did not accept any excuse for division. The opposite of division is unity.  Paul made the appeal that the people "be perfectly joined together."  This is an appeal for oneness in disposition and voice.  Paul was not making an appeal to conformity in worship, but to oneness in love, fellowship, attitude and purpose.  The appeal is made "by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ."  This is a title referring to both the person and the office of the Saviour.  His person is divinely and perfectly blended.  His office is Redeemer.  He is the sole head of the church. The appeal is made that the unity be "in the same mind and in the same judgment."  The appeal is made in meekness "I beseech you" and in love "brethren."  Unity, then, is realized when members of a fellowship turn their thoughts to Christ rather than to individual feelings.

Sometimes the leadership God places in our lives may be younger than we or perhaps less able or wise in our eyes.  We must recognize that God is the One who placed those individuals over us.  Romans 13:1, 2 NIV says, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.  The authorities that exist have been and will be established by God.  Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and will institute, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."  We cannot break God's order.

300 men were totally committed to following Gideon's instruction regardless of how illogical it seemed.  They had no opinion of their own or suggestions for Gideon on how to win the battle.  Their attitude was "Whatever you say, we will do."  Their submission to the authority of their leader was complete.  And so it must be in our lives - total submission to God our Father and the leaders He places over us.

In 2 Corinthian 4: 7, Paul writes, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."  But unless we come to the place of giving up our stubborn will, our own ambitions and our way of doing things, the light of the Christ will never shine out from us, the earthen vessels.

In the final analysis, only the Holy Spirit can make a man/woman an elder (Acts 20:  28). God makes men/women overseers, as they carry on their work.  David was taking care of the sheep not chasing a crown.   The church recognizes them as divinely-appointed.  The qualifications of a true leader are found in 1Timothy 3:1 - 7and in Titus 1: 6 - 9.

May God bless and keep you.

Your servant in Christ,

 Rev. Paul McPhail

General Secretary

Please take note that the head office of the Independent Assemblies of God International (Canada) has moved to Chatham-Kent, Ontario.  Effective May 2005. (note address above and new phone numbers, fax)

June 30/05

Dear Fellow Ministers:

Greetings to all of you in the Wonderful Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

My prayer for all of you is that the Lord will bless your labour of love as you all continue to build His Church.  I wish to express my thanks to all of you for your kind co-operation as we have seen the fellowship grow and develop over the years.  There cannot be any steadfast growth with out the co-operation of the body.

Our new Canadian General Secretary for the Independent Assemblies Of God International ( Canada ) is Reverend Paul McPhail. .  All mail should  now be addressed to him.

We all need to lift up our new leader in prayer by making a commitment to him and working in harmony to keep building the kingdom of God.  There is no one big enough to do this on their own.  We need one another. You all are important.

We are living in a day when leadership is so vital.  Also it is a day when we are lacking good leadership.  The I.A.O.G.I. fellowship has been blessed to have so many capable workers on our executive committee. I want to personally say thank you to each one for your many labours of love in the fellowship. As we move together we will see God do a great work in His church to bring in a harvest that is greater then any one can imagine.  This will only take place as we work to build up one another.  It is so important to have a good word for one another.  Good words will build up, and negative words will pull done.

Joan and I will still be travelling to visit churches as you call us. We are not going to spend the rest of our lives under a shade tree.  If we can be of help to you please feel free to contact us.  We thank you for your prayers for us.  It was so good to hear from so many of you during and after our convention in Toronto.

May the Lord bless and keep you is our prayer.

SURPRISED BY LIFE

"I wait for the Lord, my soul waits and in God's word I hope." Psalm 130: 5-6

Spring which includes Easter is about death, dying, resurrection, and the celebration of life!  After all Jesus was stripped of everything he loved and owned, his family, his friends, his clothes, his reputation, and his life.  Winter is renewed in resurrection!  Isn't this the same for us?

God did not come to deliver us from pain and heartache but to deliver our lives from meaninglessness?

Death was not the end for Jesus or for us!  I can just imagine Jesus coming out of the tomb that early morning spreading his arms and shouting "I'm back! let's celebrate!" "Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music&ldots;"

The world undervalues the commandment from God to love, and renew our minds.   We look to the resurrection for the promise of new life.  We can choose life, forgiveness, and renewal instead of death.  Even in the face of tragedy.  This was remarkably demonstrated by the words in the Eulogy by Rev. Don Schiemann, the father of Const. Peter Schiemann, one of the four young RCMP officers recently killed in our province.

"But we know of One who does understand and feel our pain because He lost his son, too.  It happened when God gave the sinless life of His son at the cross to redeem sinful lives and to purchase forgiveness for us all.  Three days later, He raised His son from the dead and conquered death.  It is through this event where human history was intersected by divine grace and mercy that we have hope&ldots; This hope fills us with eager anticipation and a longing for the time when we shall be forever with the Lord&ldots;Peter, we will see you in heaven, but we can hardly wait."  Edmonton Journal, Friday, March 11, 2005.

Let's remember then that renewal, like the springtime, happens naturally with and in the presence of our Creator. We must however be willing to grow and desire to be renewed.  I'm celebrating life in all its joy, struggles, strife and darkness because death does not define our lives nor is it the end!"

JUBILEE YEAR

My first entry into India was 50 years ago in the fall of 1955. Little did I know then of what lay ahead when I wrote in my Journal "Launching on a Lifetime" as I traveled by sea from Vancouver B. C. to Calcutta, India. To be a missionary had been my life ambition since early childhood.  I knew this was God's calling upon my life.  Now 50 years later I rejoice that I am still able to go to India.

Although my co-workers and I did not reap any harvest of souls in those early days in that field, we had "broken the ground and planted seeds" of the Word of Life.   "Cast thy bread upon the water and thou shall find it after many days."  Ecclesiastes 11:1

For three years while struggling alone, I prayed fervently for an equipped Telugu pastor to join me. It must be someone with a genuine burden for the lost.  At last, miraculously, God sent an experienced and fully dedicated Pastor.  He is Rev. N. K. Rakshana from East Godavary District.  Now, 19 years later, under his anointed and powerful leadership the work has grown up from grass roots to become the most thriving ministry throughout the Guntur District.

Preaching the Word with God confirming it with signs following, is the divinely appointed method as described and blessed by the Lord as recorded in the Gospel of Mark.  That is the method that is in operation. Out of Hinduism they have been "snatched like firebrands out of the burning."  Many, many hundreds now have been baptized and declare themselves boldly as Christians.

The 43 Orphan Girls and 43 Orphan Boys are a delight.  They wholeheartedly send their thanks to those who had a part in providing the funds to give a beautiful set of clothes and a "bed sheet" (light blanket) for each one.  They look great.  Staff also received the coverings.  We gave each lady worker on the premises a saree and the men a shirt. It gives them great delight.

Isaiah 54:2  "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch for the curtains of thy habitation. Spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes."  Please pray that God will supply the necessary funds to purchase a larger property.  There are fields behind our place producing various crops.  The price of land is very high.  But this is God's work and He is able to meet the need.  His Kingdom is being enlarged.  He is JEHOVAH JIREH!

WORLDVIEW OF CHRISTIANITY AND MISSIONS

The startling fact is Christianity has become the largest religion on earth in excess of 2 billion adherents, one third of the world's population.  North America is no longer the heart of Christianity.

Statistics show more Christians in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia than in North America.

Christ has won the hearts of many Hindus, Buddhist and Muslims.  In China millions have responded to the gospel.  In the Ukraine the President appointed a Prime Minister who is born again and spirit filled.  She was recently quoted as saying "Our Government has come to the conclusion that the Ukraine can never rise on her feet until she bows down her knees before Almighty God".   Incredible, when you realize Ukraine was a former communist society.  In Latin America there are 512 million Christians compared to 227 million in North America.  Africa has 389 million Christians and Asia 345 million.

In 2025 just 20 years from now it is estimated there will be 623 million Christians in Latin America, 596 million in Africa and 498 million in Asia.  Jesus Christ not only died, He arose from the dead, ascended to heaven and is coming again with triumphant power and glory for His Church.  Praise God!  But in the meantime He said "I will build my Church" and He is doing it in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia and around the world.

But there are still many areas of our world, which are not having revival and are totally unexposed to the Gospel of Christ.

Take for example Russia!  For 18 years I have had the joy of ministering in Russia and Eastern Europe.  And I thank God for the hundreds of thousands of Russians who have placed their faith in Christ and for the millions of Bibles which have been airlifted to and are now being printed in what was the very heart and centre of the communist world.

Virtually all evangelical Pastors have had no formal theological training and the majority no resource books.  Muslim missionaries are invading the territory with suitcases filled with money and literature, while often Christian Ministers and Churches do not have Bibles to share with those interested in or embracing the Christian faith. Friends, there is still a tremendous missionary challenge before us.  But sad to report many evangelical Churches and Christians have become complacent, apathetic and lethargic towards missions.

We need you to become involved in intercessory prayer, we need you to invite missionaries to minister in your Churches to share the burden of their heart with your people, and we need you to present a financially  challenging missionary project to your congregation, something commensurate with your Church's monthly income.

We need you to personally write a sacrificial, missionary offering.  God wants each of us to be His hand extended reaching out to the oppressed.  May God challenge our hearts today with Missions.  To receive the entire report given at the National Convention May 2005 by Rev James Weller you may write to him requesting the same.

BONES AND BONES AND DRY BONES

NOW HER THE WORD OF THE LORD!

I am currently Associate Pastor of Trinity Revival Centre in Sudbury.  I was asked to come and assist.   In seeking God the Lord gave me direction that I was to "get out of the box" and when I got out of the box to not do as I have heard so many others do.  I was to quit white washing sin and to preach that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sins as the word declares in 1 John 1:7.  The Lord also gave me this text Ezekiel 37:1-14 which is the dry bones live text.  (NKJV)

One of the more frightening words in the English language is "hopeless."  History is replete with the examples of "hopeless" situations, however, in the hands of God those hopeless situations are merely opportunities for God to reveal Himself!  Such circumstances help us see our need of God and His hope and that nothing is hopeless with God.

If history teaches us anything, it teaches us that what can seem hopeless today can be full of hope tomorrow!  Even in the natural realm this is true.  Once simple infections used to kill people, today with the knowledge of antibiotics we hardly flinch at the news of many kinds of infections, they are more nuisances to us now, years ago they were hopeless and deadly.

God can alter hopeless situations.

Ezekiel sets the stage describing how the hand of God took hold of him through the Spirit and set him down in a valley filled with dry bones and he says: "indeed they were very dry."

God is asking each one of us today; can these bones live?  Or can hopeless situations be changed?  Here in this same way that He instructed Ezekiel He is instructing us. "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, "O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord."

When we do like Ezekiel did speaking forth and prophesying as we are commanded without fear of man then we will feel a great shaking and a whole lot of rattling going on.

Ezekiel 37:9 "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live." Ezekiel 37:10  "So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army."

God, even as He did in the days of Ezekiel is raising up an army in these last days. He has conquered Satan and given us dominion and authority through Jesus Christ the Lord. Remember it is not by our mighty words spoken in some message from the pulpit or by our power that souls will come alive,  but "by my spirit says the Lord of hosts."  To this we must say Amen &ldots;.. Let it be so.

Tithing for the Minister and Their Ministry

The Word of God teaches that both the minister and the ministry should tithe.

"And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, and we will not forsake the house of our God." (Nehemiah 10:38,39)

It seemed from the discussion about tithing at our recent annual conference that there is not a clear distinction between a minister's tithes and the tithes of our ministries.

The Minister's Tithes: We all seem to agree that the members of our churches and ministries should give their tithes to the church. We teach that the tithes belong to the local church where the members receive the Word of the Lord. We teach that the tithe is one tenth of the total of the individual's income. It is not what is left over after all the bills are paid. Further, the law states that a receipt can only be issued for giving that is approved by the church board.

The same principles apply to the minister who gives their tithes. Many of us work secular jobs to support ourselves in ministry. So we must give the tithes of our total personal income from our ministry and our work to the ministry.

The Tithes of the Ministry: These principles are the same when it comes to how our ministry gives. We should agree that our ministries should be giving one tenth of its total income just like we expect our members to do. We should agree that the tithes of the funds given to our ministry should be given to some other ministry, just like our members give their tithes to some ministry outside of their families. A ministry cannot call paying its own ministers tithing. missions. That is a part of the ministry of that organization. Similarly, the ministers of a ministry cannot be called missionaries of that organization. The tithes from our ministries should be given to another ministry, like our ministerial association or to missions. Just like other ministries, missions should give a tithe of the funds that come to them to some other ministry or mission. And the executive of our ministerial fellowship do have the authority to give the tithes of all funds that come into our fellowship to some other organization or mission.

Giving to Missions: So Paul gave his famous "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. ... so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:6, 7)

If we expect our members to give to our ministries, then our ministries must set the example of giving to others. May the Lord confirm His word to our hearts.

INDEPENDENT ASSEMBLIES

PASTOR HONOURED IN HER COMMUNITY

In March 2005, Pastor Del Edwards was nominated by the Brampton Citizenship Awards Committee to receive a citizens' award for the recent publication of her book, "The Sky's the Limit". The nominating member saw the book featured in a local newspaper article in which it detailed all of the tireless effort that Pastor Edwards has given in the name of Jesus Christ to help those in need.   Pastor Edwards was presented with this award at a formal reception held in honour of all community service award recipients on Wednesday May 11, 2005.

The book has also had successful sales in Chapters and Indigo bookstores across Ontario, even selling out in one location. "We thank God for what He is doing through our lives in this hour", says Edwards. "When we give ourselves to Him and follow His will and direction, He opens doors that no man can shut." It is Pastor Edwards' desire that a copy of the book be distributed to every Christian in need. The premise of the book is based on teachings in the ministry of deliverance, where Christians that struggle to live a truly Christ-like walk can find answers. It teaches us how to come into the abundant life that Jesus has faithfully promised us.

Pastor Del has also recently launched a weekly radio program called "The Lord Gave the Word" and for those in southern Ontario, it airs each Wednesday at 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm over

1250 AM (Joy 1250) on the radio dial.  "This is a modest start", says Edwards, we are interested in spreading the Gospel and "in reaching out to those who are looking for answers for their struggles within the church."  Pastor Edwards is also working on her next publication "Let's Be Real" - another book featuring many messages that she has ministered, and testimonies of changed lives. More information is available on www.deledwardsministries.com.  We are asking for your prayers for this ministry.

A PARADIGM SHIFT

OF LARGENESS OF HEART

FOR THE FIRST NATIONS PEOPLES

My vision is for the First Nations people.

My prayer lately has been to ask the Lord for what Solomon asked for -- wisdom. As I was praying, the Lord gently told me, "Fern, ask for the other half of what Solomon asked for. As I read down from I Kings 3 for the whole context of the passage, I fell upon I Kings 4:29 which wonderfully says, "And the Lord God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore: [I Kings 4:29 KJV] Brothers and sisters who pastor, this would imply indeed very large love! I do not even think I was conscious that this phrase was even there in the same context before. It appears here that even though Solomon asked only for wisdom to lead the great number of people, that God was so pleased he added long life, riches and a heart great with love to meet the great task! All my life I have only heard the wisdom half of that passage preached.

But what is God's wisdom if it is not tempered with the love that "largeness of heart" implies? It will be needed to plant as the Lord instructs and He has already given me much of the blueprint for it. I have had 17 years plus experience working as a minister in First Nations communities in Northern Ontario and have been called recently to "plant" a church in an unreached area -- the Maritimes. The when, how and exactly where are I have felt, Eskasoni, in the next year.  I very much desire to walk with integrity in my call and wish to be unified with His other servants in evangelism of the First Nations people.

I have known since 1988 that nothing really has been done for the Mi'Kmaq peoples in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and felt burdened for them.  Back in 1988, while visiting relatives there, I sat by the road and watched them disappear into the landscape, ignored by church groups.

My fellow ministers, we have a third-world mission field right at our doorsteps!  When He asked me, I vowed to the Lord that I would speak for Him on behalf of this people whenever I am asked, and I have done so much lately with the unction of the Holy Ghost.

The Body of Christ must enter into a new paradigm shift if it is to fulfill the Great Commission in our own country.  This shift I believe to be unity and thinking according to His statutes.  Because it's not for us --it forHim, for love alone, so that we may feed His sheep, to reveal the Father in our works, to glorify Him who is worthy!  Lovest thou me? then feed my sheep. Thank God for all of you faithfully labouring in your commissioned fields!

Please pray for me in this.  My intinerary this summer will involve ministering in First Nations commmunities in Sioux Lookout area, Quebec and Nova Scotia this summer.  Please pray for me and with me for God's direction in this ministry.

REV ARNE BRYAN AND KATHY BRYAN

Our thanks goes to Brother Arne and Kathy Bryan for the work, sacrifice and commitment to Southern British Columbia over these many years serving as Regional Secretary.   We say thank you and may the Lord God continue to bless your work for Prayer Canada.  Your labour is not "in vain in the Lord."  Rev Gwen A. Dreger is now the Regional Secretary.

We also honour you for the work you do with Prayer Canada.  Your great vision for Canada.  We are asking all of our fellowship members to please visit their website and see what God is doing, and if so led see what you can do to start a prayer post in your community.  We must claim Canada for Jesus.  We must pray, and we must believe for the purposes of God to be fulfilled in our land.

"I exhort therefore, that, first of all...prayers for kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and  peaceable life in all godliness and honesty"  1Tim2:1-4.

Letters      Letter From The Editors

Greetings to all of you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As Joshua approached the biggest battle of his life, he encountered God, fell in worship before him and surrender his plans.  That surrender led to a stunning victory at Jericho.  This is a paradox, victory comes through surrender.  Surrender doesn't weaken you, it strengthens you.  God chose Mary not because she was talented or wealthy or beautiful, but because she was totally surrendered.  She said "I am the Lord's servant and I am willing to accept whatever he wants."   My prayer is that we will give ourselves completely to God.

We are free to choose what we surrender to, but we are not free from the consequences of that choice.  Surrender to God is the only way to live, because nothing else works.

Sometimes it takes years, but eventually you discover that the greatest hindrance to God's blessing in your life is not others, it is ourselves-our self will.  We cannot fulfill God's purposes for our life  while focusing on our own plans.  If God is going to do his deepest work in us, it will begin with this.  So if we give it all to God, our past regrets, our present problems, our future, our fears, dreams, weaknesses, hurts and hang-ups.  The Apostle Paul said, "I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into me, that is Christ's sufficiency."  "I can do all things through Christ , which strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.

Paul's surrender occurred on the road to Damascus.  For others, God gets our attention with other methods.  Regardless surrender is never a one time event.  Paul said "I die daily".  There is a moment of surrender and there is the practice of surrender, which is moment by moment and lifelong.

Our decision to live a totally surrendered life will be tested.  Sometimes it will mean doing inconvenient, unpopular, costly or seemingly impossible tasks.  It will often mean doing the opposite of what you feel like doing.

Bill Bright the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, through the staff of Crusade for Christ was instrumental in the writing of  the Four Spiritual Laws tract, and the Jesus film [seen by over four billion people] more than 150 million people have come to Christ and will spend eternity in heaven due to the film alone.

Someone asked Bill "why did God use and bless your life so much?" He said, "When I was a young man I made a contract with God.  I literally wrote it out and signed my name at the bottom.  It said, "From this day forward, I am a slave of Jesus Christ."

May we surrender to God's grace, love and wisdom.  What does Jesus want for your life?  WDJWFYL.
